Partnership to bring free virtual tax preparation to Ontario communities
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Local initiative offering free virtual tax preparation to Ontario communities
Local tech start-up ClientTable and non-profit Beneficent bring virtual tax clinics to modest-income residents and families throughout Ontario
Toronto,ON (March 18, 2021) - From March 27-28, 2021, modest-income residents and families in Ontario will have access to free and secure, virtual tax preparation support. These tax preparation clinics will be hosted by the non-profit organization, Beneficent. No longer able to host the tax clinic in-person, Beneficent partnered with a local tech start-up ClientTable. The secure client portal provided by ClientTable will enable Beneficent’s clients to transfer sensitive files for review.
Eligible community members can sign up for this service on the registration page. From there, qualified and trained volunteers will help prepare and securely file a client’s tax returns. Beneficent volunteers are paying special attention to 2020 specific situations such as CERB benefits and work from home benefits. All document exchanges will be done through ClientTable’s portal, creating an entirely virtual experience.
“Our number one priority is to protect our users and their personal information,” says ClientTable CEO and Co-Founder Ghufran Siddiqui. “Many tax preparation services use insecure email exchanges or inconvenient physical pick up and drop off processes when coordinating paperwork with clients. Through our partnership with Beneficent, we are excited to see our technology used to help the community.”
“With COVID-19 restrictions still in place, it can be difficult for many to access in-person tax preparation services” says Habiba Mubashsher, Project Manager at Beneficent. “We are incredibly grateful to ClientTable for partnering with us. We are proud to be at the forefront of providing this secure service to our most vulnerable community members.”
For more information about the Beneficent virtual tax preparation service, please visit the registration page. Bookings must be made in advance of the event dates and will be available until capacity is reached.
